Why I believe craft nights with friends are important in our lives!
There's something powerful about sitting around a table with friends, hands busy with yarn, shaping clay, or baking in the kitchen. In these moments, we're not just creating something tangible; we're healing in ways we might not even realize. For me, craft nights are more than just a fun way to spend an evening. Hand on heart, I love the peaceful moment when I'm knitting, overlooking the sea by myself too, but in a world that constantly demands our attention (performing, producing, and rolling), crafts allow us to slow down, to ground ourselves in something real, something ancient. It's no secret that the act of creating with our hands is as old as time, and we are slowly returning to our roots. And I'm all for it!
One of the most powerful things about a craft night is the sense of safety it can provide, if you set the intention, of course. It's not about performance or perfection; it's about being together in a shared space where it's okay to try, to mess up, to laugh at the mess, to try again and keep exploring. When we feel emotionally safe, our nervous system relaxes. Our shoulders relax, we breathe deeper and open up, sometimes through conversation, sometimes just through the quiet presence of people who bring you peace. It gives our bodies permission to rest.
Unlike other social gatherings that can feel loud, overwhelming, or full of social expectations, craft nights are often slower, quieter, and more meaningful. You can talk, or you can sit quietly if that's what you need in that moment. There's no pressure to entertain or impress. Just being there is enough. So perhaps it's time we stop thinking of craft nights as just a hobby and start recognizing them as a kind of collective therapy. A way to take care of ourselves and each other. A way to remain human in a world that often pushes us towards burnout. I've been there, I'm not going back, and neither should you!
So gather your friends, get out the scissors, the thread, the ingredients, and create. Not just decorations, but connections. Because healing doesn't always look like a breakthrough in a therapy room. Sometimes it looks like a group of friends, hands full of yarn, laughing late into the night, or in my case, at a reasonable hour because sleep is golden. And that's why I believe craft nights are important in our lives!
